I’m not sure what you mean really. He’s describing a map, his map, of consciousness. Obviously his plan is to make that map as accurate as possible, and he spends much of the book showing how his map matches with actual experience and scientific knowledge better than the non-explanations of dualism or essentialism.

Obviously he does a better job of that in 400+ pages than I did in barely 6 paragraphs.
